Pik1 Combs

Sometimes the best ideas are simple.

PIK1 combs was launched with the sole aim of proudly celebrating cherished heritage. Combining the beloved Afro Pik, a staple family heirloom within the black community with Ancestral heritage in a product that is not only functional but also beautiful, vibrant and fun.

This makes PIK1 combs unique and ICONIC. We have upgraded the beloved Afro comb with designs inspired by the national colours and patterns of eight African and Carribean nations with many more to come. No one will be left behind.

Afro Combs

PIK1's Journey

Our founder Joseph started growing his hair when he was 16 years during which he tried many afro combs, wooden, plastic and metal. Plastic was his preferred material, however Joe would find that they were either too strong to the point of breaking his hair or, not durable to the point of the comb itself breaking. He wanted a comb that was flexible, yet durable and so his and PIK1's journey began. Inspired by a photograph of his mom during her younger days when she would sport her afro Joe designed the head and neck of the combs in her honour.

We developed our combs over 8 years using our own special mould and heat resistant plastic which is strong for durability yet soft for maleability and are suitable for all hair types from coily to wavy. We first started with a plain prototype which we thoroughly tested and developed over two years, a key process as the comb itself is the heart of our product.

We also designed the perfect teeth, pointy enough for precision yet rounded for comfort and to help prevent scalp damage. Each design is digitally printed to ensure the pattern doesn't fade.

You may also notice small details such as the spacing at the center of the teeth is slightly gapped compared to the rest, a gentle nod to a common and beautiful black feature, the handle in the shape of an afro with irregular curve, representing different curl patterns. We enjoyed injecting a little fun through small details, only if you know you know, we know and we love it.

A lot of love, attention, pride and joy time goes into each comb project and we are so happy to finally share with you. We even spent some time in Brixton and Oeckham before we launched to introduce our combs to the community the Old Skool Way.
